I was snorkeling at Hanauma Bay today and saw a pair of butterflyfish that I've never seen before. After doing some research, I learned that these are called lined butterflyfish, because of the dark vertical lines on their white bodies.
What I thought made them so distinct was their bright yellow fins and their sheer size. They seemed much larger than most butterflyfishes you see on the reef. I also read that the lined butterflyfish is very uncommon and difficult to approach, which made these photos my lucky shots of the day!
