Another spot that's off UH's marked walking path is East-West Center's impressive and well-manicured Japanese Garden.
There's much to admire in this small garden and I love that there are numerous signs hidden in plain sight to help explain what type of tree is planted there, the meaning behind a specific lantern, or when the tea house was built, etc. The landscaping is so beautiful that the signs are unnoticeable until you walk right up to it.
What deceived me though as I was strolling through this peaceful place, was watching different koi swim beneath the multiple levels of slow trickling waterfalls, but at the same time hearing the loud roar of gushing, flowing water. Sight and sound didn't match! After more exploring, I found that the garden sits right alongside Manoa Stream, and after a rainy night the stream was surging!
