Mango Gelato with a Strawberry Ripple
Mango season was a bust for me this summer. I had no luck finding nice-looking locally grown mangoes at the farmer's markets. The ones I did come across definitely weren't worth the price they were being sold for. I also didn't receive any freebie mangoes from anyone who has a mango tree. Some years it's like that, while other times you get soda boxes filled with mangoes and you don't know what to do with all of them! That's why I'm extremely grateful when anyone shares their crop with me. You never know what kind of mango season it will be.
By now I had already conceded that I'd have to wait until next summer for another chance to eat local mangoes. I mean, it is October. You can imagine the bewildered look on my face then, when my daughter came home this past weekend from the UH dormitory and laid out five gorgeous local mangoes on our kitchen counter. What miracle was this?? Santa came early!
Two of the mangoes ended up having rotten flesh on the inside near the pit, but the other three were sweet and firm. The perfect amount needed to make my mango gelato (that I shared with you on July 7, 2021.)
I had always wanted to add a raspberry ripple to my mango gelato, but the only fruit I had on hand were strawberries. It turned out to be a delicious combo!
